Free calculators for Swiss taxes and withholding. Canton-specific rates for expats and foreign workers.
Switzerland has a unique tax system where federal, cantonal and municipal taxes combine to determine your total tax burden. For foreign nationals and cross-border workers, Quellensteuer (withholding tax) is deducted directly from salary by the employer. Rates vary significantly between cantons. Zurich, Geneva, Basel and Bern each apply their own schedules based on income, marital status and number of dependents.
Our Swiss calculators use the official cantonal tariff tables published by the Eidgenossische Steuerverwaltung (ESTV) and the respective cantonal tax authorities. Each tool is updated for the 2026 tax year. Whether you are estimating your Quellensteuer as a B-permit holder or comparing withholding rates between cantons, these free tools provide a clear estimate.
Quellensteuer rates typically range from around 5% in low-tax cantons like Zug to over 30% in higher-tax cantons for top earners. If your annual gross salary exceeds CHF 120,000 (the threshold varies by canton), you may be required to file a regular Swiss tax return instead. Cross-border commuters (Grenzgaenger) from France, Germany, Italy, and Austria are subject to special bilateral agreements that can alter the applicable rate.
All calculations run in your browser. No personal data leaves your device. For binding tax advice, consult your cantonal Steueramt or a qualified Swiss tax adviser (Steuerberater/fiduciaire).
