What is the ideal chlorine level for a pool?

What should my pool pH be?

Ideal pool pH is between 7.2 and 7.6. A pH of 7.4 is optimal. Below 7.2 the water becomes corrosive, above 7.6 chlorine loses effectiveness and scale can form.

For rectangular pools: length x width x average depth (in metres) gives you cubic metres. For round pools: pi x radius squared x depth. One cubic metre equals 1,000 litres.

Test chlorine and pH at least twice per week during swimming season, and alkalinity once per week. After heavy rain, parties, or extended hot weather, test again.
